BENGALURU: A 40-year-old Nigerian man was arrested by northeast CEN crime police for allegedly cheating a woman of Rs 34 lakh on the pretext of getting her a nurse’s job in the UK. The accused is Nokocha Kasmir Ikemba, a resident of Faridabad, Haryana, and from Nigeria. He had promised Doddagubbi resident Malar Kodi the job and took money in the name of various charges. Police registered a cheating case against an unknown person on January 25 based on Malar’s complaint. Malar, a nurse, told cops she received an email on November 15, 2022, from an unknown person informing her that there were openings in a UK hospital for nurses. He shared a mobile application link and a phone number. She contacted him over phone and he promised to get her the job. He asked her to pay various charges and she transferred Rs 34,07,542 in multiple transactions. She had mortgaged her house to raise the money. Police collected details of the bank account holder and the mobile number from which Malar was contacted. On learning that the suspect lived in Faridabad, a team travelled there and arrested him. Preliminary investigation revealed Ikemba had come to India in 2013 and stayed illegally after the expiry of his medical visa. He was earlier arrested by Delhi police on cheating charges.
