Sudha Murty News: Sudha Murty reveals UK immigration officials refused to believe she was staying at

Nobody is exempt from microaggressions and racial profiling, not even people from the upper echelon of society.

Author-philanthropist Sudha Murty, wife of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy, was reportedly met with unamused responses from British immigration officials, who refused to believe that she is the mother-in-law of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Murty, who recently made an appearance at the ‘Kapil Sharma Show’, revealed that the immigration officials refused to believe her when she listed ‘10 Downing Street’ as her UK address on the form. That is the address of the British Prime Minister. “Once when I had gone, they asked me my residential address. ‘Where are you staying in London?’ My elder sister was with me, and I thought should I write ’10 Downing Street’. My son also lives there (in the UK), but I didn’t remember his complete address. But I finally wrote 10 Downing Street,” she told Sharma.

The author revealed that the immigration officials were shellshocked at the address and asked her if she was joking, to which she demurely replied, “Nahi sachchi bolti hu,” (No, I am telling the truth).

Murty also talked about her favourite Bollywood stars. She revealed that she is a die-hard fan of Dilip Kumar but also has a soft corner for Shah Rukh Khan due to his resemblance to the former. “When I was young, my favourite hero was Dilip Kumar. He was amazing. Next to him, like Dilip Kumar, who can act, that kind of emotion, is Shah Rukh Khan. Only he can do that,” she gushed. However, the author did not forget to praise the other Khan, Salman. Lauding his performance in the drama ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, Murty described the ‘Dabangg’ star as a man with the “innocence of a child”.

Murty was recently honoured with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in India.
