Valid OCI Visa: Uk Sikh Mp Quizzedat Amritsar Airport | Chandigarh News

Amritsar: Britain’s Punjab-origin MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi was stopped for two hours by the immigration officials after he landed at the airport here from Birmingham on Thursday.

The Labour MP from Slough was stopped as he was not carrying his Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. When he provided the papers, he was allowed to leave. Later in the evening, he tweeted that he “was held back at Amritsar airport as haters had called to cancel my visa.” Dhesi said he had a valid OCI visa. “Guess it’s the price to pay for standing up for farmers, the marginalised and minorities like the Sikhs,” he said, adding that the issue was resolved after strong interventions of family, friends and supporters.

Reacting to the tweet, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal tweeted: “Detaining and harassing prominent Sikh NRI & British MP is highly deplorable. This damages the country’s secular image and hurts Sikh sentiments. I urge Union home minister @AmitShah to put brakes on these humiliating incidents.”
