Odds on Ryan Tubridy’s next career move as bookies predict a switch to UK news channel

All eyes are on Ryan Tubridy after his fallout with RTE as people are speculating about what he will choose to do next.

While insiders have speculated he could be set to announce his own podcast, a career move to a news channel in the UK could be on the cards for Tubs with a new job at GB News proving most popular at the bookies.

This comes a week after he was sacked from RTE by Director General Kevin Bakhurst after negotiations broke down between the pair following Tubridy’s statement on the second Grant Thornton report.

The former Late Late Show host has been off air since June when the RTE payments scandal first emerged but had been due to return to his RTE Radio 1 morning show in September, for a salary of €‎170,000, before talks fell apart last week.

Now bookies have revealed the latest odds on his next career move which include a possible break into the podcasting world or move across the Irish sea for a top job at GB News, according to Ladbrokes.

A new podcast is looking most likely at even money, but a TV role at GB News, home to fellow top presenters Piers Morgan and Eamonn Holmes, is proving most popular at 3/1.

GB News isn’t the only UK station in the mix with a move to the BBC a 4/1 shot, while a job at ITV is 5/1. It is a 7/1 shot that he goes even further afield and moves to the US.

In the event that Tubridy stays in Ireland, Ladbrokes make it just 4/1 that Tubridy lands a gig at Virgin Media, while it is 6/1 that he will be heard on the airwaves for Newstalk.

A new book release for the self-confessed bookworm is also in the mix at 5/1.

Elsewhere, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Ryan makes a sensational return to RTE. Ladbrokes go 8/1 that he returns to his former employer by the end of 2024.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “The guessing game on Ryan Tubridy’s next move has kicked up a notch following his cryptic ‘new beginnings’ post on social media this week, and although his options seem endless, a TV gig in the UK is proving most popular.”

‌This comes after Tubridy broke his silence and teased a new project on Wednesday morning – claiming he is set to make a triumphant return.

He wrote on Instagram: “A new dawn, a new day, a new beginning. Stay tuned for more….”

Ryan Tubridy in the RTÉ studio

TV insiders have said he would have a bigger audience than his former RTE Radio 1 show if he set up his own podcast, claiming he has a host of famous faces to interview.

A source told the Irish Mirror: “Tucker Carlson was sacked from Fox News and he set up his own studio. He started doing podcasts and now he has more viewers than the show he had on Fox News.

“He should do something like that.

“He is a huge name here and he could do very well if he did his own thing and not going to another station.

“Ryan Tubridy should do the same. He would have the call of everybody and if he did it from a studio in his house, he could get people from all over the world and people know who he is and he doesn’t have to move outside his own house to do it and he would get a huge audience.”
