Woman tries to fly to UK using fake passport, held | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: An immigration officer’s question about her residential address in Thane blew the cover of a 23-year-old woman who was planning to migrate to the UK on a fake passport. Sahar police on Wednesday arrested Pooja Mehta from the city airport and later found that she hailed from Umbergaon in Gujarat’s Valsad district and already has a passport issued there.

Police are looking for the agent who helped her get the fake passport issued on November 10, 2022, in the name of Rakhiben Kamlesh with Lokmanya Nagar in Thane (W) as the address. “During interrogation, Mehta confessed that she got the fake passport after her attempt to migrate to the UK on her genuine passport failed. She even managed to get the visa stamped using the fake passport,” said a police officer.

Police said when Mehta walked to the counter for immigration clearance at the international airport, the officer asked her: “Where do you stay in Thane?” As she was unable to give the exact location, the immigration officer got suspicious and scrutinised her passport and found it to be fake, police added.
